File Preparation and Editing
File Preparation and Editing
In some cases, scan files may need to be cleaned, scaled, aligned, or edited before they can be used in RSET. Unless you are under an active service contract with RSET, file preparation and editing is the responsibility of the end user or the RSET Service Provider (RSP).
Below is a list of free software tools commonly used for editing and preparing 3D scan files:
- Blender – Full-featured 3D modeling and editing software
- MeshLab – Excellent for cleaning, repairing, and simplifying meshes
- CloudCompare – Best for aligning, scaling, and comparing point clouds
Important Note: RSET has no affiliation with any of these third-party software providers. We do not provide support or instruction for their use. However, there are many free tutorials available online (including on YouTube) to help you get started.
RSET has no ownership or affiliation with these platforms. They are provided as recommendations based on experience. You are free to use any scanning solution, provided the output can be exported or converted into a supported format such as OBJ or GLB.
Video Production For some RSET users, the end goal is to produce a video for consumption. In that case, we recommend the following free tools:
- OBS Studio – Excellent for screen recording and live video capture
- DaVinci Resolve – Professional-grade video editing software (free version is very powerful)
Important Note: RSET has no affiliation with OBS Studio or DaVinci Resolve and does not provide support for these tools.
